“God is with you in the desert season…”
“Your best is yet to come…”
“God wants to bless you abundantly…”

We are familiar with such phrases, but I have yet to come across a church in the Solomons that preaches like this. Tonight we sang of Gods glory as the children and adults wept. But there was no focus on “I”, “Me”, or “Self”.

It seems most churches operate by reading the bible and interpreting the scriptures communally, ie. what is God calling ‘us’ to do as a church. It’s beautiful to see a collective culture applying Gods word.

I’m sure Solomon Churches have many issues and our rose tinted glasses are hiding some of them, but the contrast feels like a breath of fresh air. Like gasping in fresh air into suffocating lungs.

Pastor Philip (who led tonight’s service) said, “we sing to Jesus as if he were in the room ready to receive our praise”. At that moment I wanted to lift the church up and transpose it into whangarei. Perhaps if we saw this profound Christ likeness it would draw us into a greater way of living. A higher way.

As we sang songs, shared stories and dances it were as if God was enjoying our togetherness. The nations were congregating to worship Him. That was enough. As such today the first instalment arrived in response to my question “why am I here God?”

“And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
